The peak of the Lyrid meteor shower of 2012 was the night of Saturday, April 21, and I went to Whiskeytown Lake near Redding, California and took about 1,000 pictures. I used 3 Panasonic GH2s with various lenses and edited all of the shots together to make the time-lapse video below. You really have to watch it in full screen at 720p or 1080p HD in order to appreciate it. This is only my second attempt at a time-lapse video and my second attempt at filming meteors, but I was pretty happy with...

Raelle Cook provides skaters with the basics of turning while on roller skates. The first thing skaters need to know is they have to be skating at a comfortable speed and a comfortable position. The most comfortable position would be not to have your knees locked. The biggest mistake is attempting to turn while going to fast. To slow down you simply drag your toe stop. Turn your body in the direction you'd like to turn and look in the direction of the turn. Don't look in the opposite directio...
Roof ventilation principles are very straightforward -- a cool attic is a happy attic! You need to create a flow of air that enters the overhang of your roof through soffit vents, then flows straight up through the rafters and out through a ridge vent. To help facilitate airflow, it may be necessary to install a thermostat-controlled exhaust fan.
This video is a time lapse drawing and painting of former Vice President Al Gore. Attempt to make "Mr. Global Warming" look like Mr. "hottie" Global Warming. Stage 1 is a pencil drawing. In Stage 2, scan the drawing, adjust the mid tones digitally, and then reprint it. In stage 3, do an underpainting with markers (both paint and illustration markers). In stage 4, build up layers of opaque and quick drying acrylic paint to get a fanciful Al Gore. In stage 5, do the detail work (such as drawing...
Made my first fruit tart over the past couple days. The crust was pate sucree (basic sweet crust). The filling was a custard that I tried to thicken with flour and corn starch. The top was just fresh fruit with an apricot glaze (just warmed up apricot preserves with a little water so I could paint it on).
If you go over to the Iphone store and download social haven rescue. You will see a cute little space app and the fish under the sea secret water world is adorable. Its a free good attempt. What games are there out there that also have fish like graphics?
Anyone who follows the TSA blog, run by “Bob”, will know that from time to time the agency attempts to offset the ballooning negative public opinion directed towards it, and the openly criminal behaviour of its employees, by bragging about “dangerous” items that it has discovered and confiscated from the luggage and persons of those traveling through the nation’s airports.
My attempt at real astrophotography. The two bright nebula are M 42 and M 43 located in Orion's Sword. I took about 20 images at ISO 800 and 1.6 second exposures using a 300 mm lens and stacked them in Photoshop after repositioning them because of the movement of the sky. This is cropped in just a tiny bit.
Trying to get all the achievements in Battlefield 3's single player campaign? You'll go nowhere without this handy guide to getting the poorly named 'Butterfly' achievement. Basically, you have to shoot down a plane on your first attempt with a Stinger missile on the level "Rock and a Hard Place". Seems easy, right?
Ok. My Cell Phone isn't cool like everyone else's. I still wanted to post up some images though. These are my attempts to make something look like it was taken using a filter app for a smart phone. These were inspired by the picture Swell of the Frank Gehry concert hall in downtown LA that was in the post on 50 amazing shots taken using instagram. I had some pictures of it that I thought were pretty cool. So there's two of them here and then a another downtown artsy pictures of Los Angeles, a...
For an art-project I'm currently working on I want to design a Gun. As I was trying to figure out how to so this, I stumbeled upon this model. A simplye tube with an L shape. I folded it from one A4 sheet. This is my first attempt, so please forgive me the imperfections of this fold. What I like about this model is the fact that it isn't flat and the way I made it hold itself together. Also it should be easy to make S and U shaped tubes with the same aproach.
Too much partying and lounging under the mid-day sun? If your attempt at a toasty caramel tan has instead resulted in a bright red sunburn, you fortunately have many common household items at your disposal to relieve the discomfort and speed up the recovery of your burnt skin.
A few years back, I wrote an article, in fact mostly to my family and friends, titled "The Evil Power of To:". I was referring to all the folks sending emails out willy-nilly to all their friends with no regard for whether or not you or I would want our email addresses boldly displayed on the "To:" line of an email. This article very pointedly explains what BCC: is and WHY you should always use it when sending out emails to more than one person. Check it out!
Pop Art by Mr Whaite is a cool tumblr featuring a series of neon film posters for popular movies. The artist says: "I love neon signs—they’re hypnotic, sexy, sleazy and tacky all at the same time—and I’ve always thought it would be cool if cinemas used them to advertise films. So with that in mind, I thought I’d have a go at designing some animated Movie Neon. My first attempt is Ghostbusters—an obvious choice really, particularly as neon featured heavily in the video for Ray Parker Jr’s sing...
This is my second attempt at cooking and I found that this one tasted much better than my Shrimp Scampi. I was not able to use slab bacon because I was unable to find any in my local supermarket and ordering it in was out of the question so I used any bacon I could find.
This was my attempt at Fettuccine Alfredo and sorry to anyone who looks at this, my photos are completely disorganized because I remembered about halfway into cooking this dish to take photos. Anyways a mistake I noticed right off the bat after cooking was that the sauce was not very thick, my brother recommended the letting sauce sit on heat a little longer. Anyone else got any other tips?

One of the most effective ways to sift out weak programs is to do market research. Take some time to study the market you are interested in by reading reports, reviews, and market studies. This should help you to determine whether or not the particular affiliate products or services you will be campaigning for is actually worth your time. A successful affiliate marketing program will be targeted at a broad population while offering products or services that are highly in demand or exclusive. ...
The english version of this how-to is found here. Little did I know, that lighter in my junk drawer has a bad ass motorcycle inside it, just burning to get out.
Yes, there are endless iPhone apps out there (and some are pretty ingenious). And yes, it does seem like the iPhone can do just about anything (truly... anything!). But the magical device failed a would-be robber last week.
A major milestone in aviation occurred this past August, when the human-powered Snowbird, an aircraft made of carbon fiber and balsa wood, achieved the first successful flight of its kind.

Leaving scissors wet or forgetting them outside can cause them to rust. Rusty scissors, if you can even open them, will leave brown marks on everything you attempt to cut through. Attempt is the truth—rust dulls the blades of the scissors making it virtually impossible to cut through any type of material, ranging from paper to fabric. But don't toss the scissors in the trash just yet. You can restore rusted scissors to a usable condition provided they are not completely covered and have rust ...
Advancements in technology usually lead to the miniaturization of old technologies, and video games are no exception. Since at least 1990, game hardware manufacturers and enterprising DIY electronics enthusiasts have poured their efforts into making full-size video game consoles smaller, even handheld. And for good reason—who would have ever played a black and white Game Boy if they could have had an actual NES in their pocket?
I'm sure most everyone has some kind of fluorescent light source in their home; those long white tubes that emit a bright white light when turned on, or maybe a few of the CFL power-saver bulbs. These bulbs actually require very little "power" (i.e. a high voltage:almost no current ratio) to emit light. In fact, static electricity is enough to make them flicker. Inside these tubes is a gas, and when electricity flows through that gas, it gets "excited" and produces light.
Unfortunately, I'm a little behind schedule on my pizza dough making mission, but I promise - more experiments coming soon! In the meantime, here's a beautiful video about the nuance that goes into bread making, as demonstrated by famed San Francisco baker Chad Robertson of Tartine Bread. Bread and pizza dough go hand-in-hand, and I've been thinking about picking up the Tartine cookbook for some time now. As I mentioned above, the nuance that goes into the process is really pretty remarkable....
