How To: 11 Non-Alcoholic Uses for Vodka

Who would have suspected that vodka had so many practical uses? Vodka can alleviate the sting of a jellyfish, treat poison ivy rash, and help relieve toothaches. For using vodka around the house, soak a clean rag and use it to get rid of bathroom mold, clean your kitchen and bathroom fixtures, and keep your clothes smelling fresh.

Nostalgia Challenge: Ex Libris

When I see Kindles and e-readers, I can't help but get a little sad over all the things those e-books are missing. The weight of literature in your hands. The feeling of turning pages one by one. The texture of the cover. The wonderful smell of an old book that's been sitting on a shelf for years, waiting for me to choose it.

News: Nice Range of Modular Models

A source of inspiration... Models folded and photographed by Michal Kosmulski. There are only two sets of instructions on the site, but they are very well done. I wish he had covered more of the models. Here are a few I would like to tackle (I'll admit my eyes are bigger than my plate):

Horror Photography Challenge: Ghost Caught on Camera, Prospect Place 10/28/11

You be the judge, win or not, let me know. This is the actual photo no editing (except the small caption to show you were to look) This is the 3rd Floor (typo on photo) "Ballroom" of Prospect Place in Dresden Ohio. Out of screen to the right is a cross that was painted to cover up a pentagram. Everyone in the room was standing behind me so there is no possible way to reflect this. No ledge outside of window so that is not possible. To me it looks like a figure with a white collar standing nex...

Difficulty Level: Moderate Photoshop Skills Photoshop isn't just for zapping zits and adding freaky colors to sunset pictures! You can use it for fun, altered-reality pictures, too. If you have a tripod and some friends, you can combine many exposures as separate layers and using layer masks, make one super cool image from many slightly cool images.

News: Completing a World... Step by Step?

Well this one is a short but sweet one. I am hoping I can enlist your input. I am probably going to do a video about how to complete a world here on WHT. I am just getting to the point where I'm pretty familiar with the layout and interface, so I should be able to write up a script that takes us through it quickly and still covers everything. What would you like to make sure you see in this video?

How To: Yumi's Guide to Easter Egg Blowing

Get crafty this Easter weekend with egg blowing, a technique where you poke holes on the ends of raw eggs and blow out all the yolk so that you can use the empty, still-intact eggshells for painting and decorating. Fun for the whole family and all that huffing and puffing just may distract you long enough from over-binging on the giant chocolate bunny and that package of sugary Peeps. Happy Easter!

News: Battle of the Shaky Cam

Responding to the inexplicably rampant use of faux-documentary techniques in "Battle: Los Angeles", Matt Zoller Seitz of Salon eloquently and hilariously lambastes the "played-out" fad of the shaky cam. Here are just a few nuggets:

News: LEGO Tron Quorra

"It seems that artist Iain Heath is quite enamored with her as well, as he’s decided to turn her Tron Legacy character Quorra into an awesome LEGO model. At only 12 inches tall and made of blocky LEGO bits, the model doesn’t exactly capture Olivia Wilde’s character in all her glory, but it’s remarkable nonetheless. Looking almost like pixel art due to its small scale, it still packs a ton of detail, from the black bob haircut to the design of the light cycle suit covering her body. Of course,...

How To: Paint clay pots for gardening

In this video, we learn how to paint clay pots for gardening with Michelle Gervais. All you need is: acrylic paints, brushes, plastic paint, cup of water, paper towels, and clay pots. First, put a base coat on your pot before you place your design onto it. This is easiest done with a foam brush, and without using any water. This will dry quickly, but take a lot of paint to fully cover the entire pot. When the paint is dry, you can now start to paint on your design! You can put stripes, flower...

Camping means cuddling. Let's be real, it's chilly at night the only source of warmth is the smoky campfire and the people sitting next to you. If you're an avid cuddler, and let's face it, who isn't..... then I would definitely recommend a two person bag!

How To: Coach Young Sports Players with Differing Abilities

On sports teams, especially youth sports teams, the players are never one and the same. Young athletes are all different, which means they all have different skills and abilities out on the field or in the arena. As a coach, you can't treat them as a whole, but you need to treat these young players as individuals of a whole. This video covers some practices and techniques, as well as gives advice for better coaching skills for teaching a "team". This is coach psychology.

News: The Snoot-less Snoot

I was shooting last Friday and for a particular shot I wanted a special on a product; I wanted it focused, but soft.  Unfortunately we had run out of flags to cut it so my Key Grip came up with a great DIY solution: cut a hole in black wrap, put it on a stand a few feet away from the light (Dedo 400W HMI) and cover that hole with a light diffusion (Opal).  The distance from the light guaranteed a defined shape while the diffusion softened up the light itself.
