Before last Sunday I hadn't been to a proper game store since I was in middle school. Over ten years ago. If you decide to stop reading right now because I obviously don't care enough about MTG to be writing this thing, I don't blame you. But I tell you, friends, as someone who has denied the utter awesomeness of their hobby for too long, that going to Emerald Knights in Burbank made me feel at home. I want to tell you about it and explain why I will be back many times in the future.
Now girls need to take up gaming, seriously. According to a new research, girls who played the games with a parent got a lot of benefits.
There's something hypnotizing about Kilian Martin's graceful moves set to the Tommy Edwards classic, It’s All in the Game. Beautifully shot. Great fashion. Completely elegant freestyle skateboarding. More evocative of Gene Kelly than the X Games.
Some folks in South Korea seem to think so. Below, recent images from website All Voices reveal a boot camp for naughty Korean children who skip school, join gangs or commit the (somehow equatable) sin of becoming addicted to video games.
Here is a trailer for what looks to be an interesting documentary about game programmers. The Official site is here.

The results are in! Here is the list of contests Wizard101 was nominated for. Here are the ones it won (It's constantly being updated!):
Blizzard Cam, a 40 mph mobile spycam on skis, spies on a group of adorable polar bears (um, minus the blood stained faces) as they devour a pile of remains. Operated remotely, Snowball Cam is released from the Blizzard if scientists detect the bears may attack the device. The decoy can roll across most terrains (even up hill), and easily distracts the bears into a game of soccer. From a BBC TV program on polar bears.
One of the all-time great arcade games of my youth returns to next-gen gaming consoles. Now I wish I owned one...

The Lying Down Game doesn't require the skill parkour does. In fact, it doesn't require any skill at all, which means anyone and their grandma can do it. Founded in the UK, The Lying Down Game is described as "Parkour...for those who cant be arsed". The rules are simple:
Jonathan Guberman of Site 3 coLaboratory hackerspace in Toronto has created an Arduino-controlled mechanical typewriter that can type on its own, detect what is being typed on it, and run text-based interactive fiction games such as the classic (and to most, all but forgotten) Zork. Guberman says:

Who could resist a retro SCRABBLE board game for two bucks? Suereal definitely couldn't, especially with the challenge of totally revamping a board game into something genuine and creative. Craftster's Craft Challenge #51 last June was meant to bring life back to an old board game with the following expectations:
When a person sits motionless for hours on end in front of a television screen, it's sloth; when a camera does the same, it's art! Case in point, these beautiful long-exposure photographs of old Atari games by Rosemarie Fiore:
A 30 minute interview on the upcoming game The Witcher 2. Lots of good questions answered along with great footage of this gorgeous game. If you're looking for something to watch with that special someone this would be it (quality time!). Perfect video to romance him/her/it on this monday night.
Do you ever go to a baseball game, football game or even the movies and always get up to take a poo or a piss. Well now you don't. How about Knoxville dressing up in old man and wearing a diaper to a game and letting it all out. Meaning taking a s**t and seeing how long people get grossed out by the smell. BETTER YET go into a movie theater were there is no ventilation and see how bad it gets. Or the same time walk into a room smelling like you are or in line and see the reaction by the peopl...
I suppose it depends how you define dangerous. It must have taken Flippy Cat a good amount of effort and planning to design and construct this giant Operation game made from Dominos. And then he lets a cat loose? Impressive work. Click on the second video in the gallery above for behind-the-scenes takes.
Well, I know JD wasn't too enamored with the game, but the GIFs available here are kind of adorable, in a nostalgic OMG 16-bit characters type way!
Are these guys running for politics? I'm buying whatever they are selling. Really great trailer with an overview of what Guild Wars 2 will bring new to the MMO scene. Narrated by the developers of the game, they offer some good points on what you can expect from the game when it launches early next year (date has yet to be determined, but it does not look like it will make it into the holiday period).
Here is the homepage for the game, looks really fresh and cool.

There is a Neogaf Thread on great and weird game art on the net today. My favorites from that thread:
Finally, gamers can do it in style. And by "it", yes, I mean IT. Graphic designer Ben Marsh has come up with a collection of awesome packaging for condoms, in the style of old Game Boy games. Don't miss the crudely fun "instruction sheet" at the bottom of the page.
If you're in LA, check out Video Game Saurday this Saturday!
Really cool music video with material of classic and current games adapted to the song. Rap was ok, but the whole production was very well done.
FarmVille added a new feature today in place of the old Mystery Boxes. This is a mystery game! It costs a bit more than the old boxes did, but you are guaranteed to get at least one of each of the mystery prizes by the time all the balloons are popped, instead of wasting tons of farm cash and perhaps opening a hundred mystery boxes and never getting that one thing you really wanted. So this is a great improvement and is much more interactive than the old 'purple sparkly poof'.
Who knows if this is going to be any good? In my experience, these combo consoles that claim to be able to play your Atari and NES games are eventually doomed to failure, as you're stuck hunting down Duck Hunt cartridges and then having to stick them in the freezer when they eventually freeze on-screen.
What separates Metro 2033 from other FPS games? Life. There are underground towns, markets, children, music, and so much background chatter than sometimes you can't single out a particular conversation.
Picked up Metro 2033 from the Steam Sale. Wow is it pretty. At 1080p with DX11 and gorgeously detailed, it's hard to not stop and stare at every single thing! I wish there was a way to somehow convey this feeling..
Like Brickwall? This is a very cool redesign to the Brickwall-type games. Catchy music and beautiful graphics, this game should be great for both casuals and hardcore.
Apparently people play FarmVille and continue to play it because of the social obligations that tie you to it. According to SUNY Buffalo instructor (and student) A. J. Patrick Liszkiewicz:

Ever play a 3D hand held game tied to a gorgeous blond model? Yeah, it happens all the time, so boring. But the video does give a nice look at the 3D aspect of the system. In the video you can see how it adapts to the players movement of the device.
A demonstration of Ubisoft's Your Shape: Fitness Evolved for the Xbox 360's Kinect. This was probably the best demonstration for Kinect out of the whole conference. The game will come out around the same time of the launch of Kinect in November.
