From Infowars: “Of course, at this stage Mr. Paul is little more than a distraction to Mr. Romney, and the two candidates are said to be quite fond of each other. Until now, Mr. Santorum had also been pinning some of his hopes on Texas, which, with its 155 delegates, has the most delegates of any contest to date,” writes Gerry Mullany.
I watched Michael Mann's "Public Enemies" (DP: Dante Spinotti) last night for the first time and was struck by a very unconventional, yet effective (I think), cut. In the opening sequence (video below), Dillinger is driven up to the entrance of a prison and escorted out of the car. The scene is established in a long lens medium wide shot (probably 200mm from 150' away...Note: standard 35mm dimensions, not 2/3"). After a few steps/seconds, it cuts to a wide angle lens closeup (24-2mm from with...
Just like late-night bar hookups, a wingman in soccer is indispensible for scoring a win. Robert Pires, a midfielder who has won the FIFA World Cup and UEFA European Championship with France, demonstrates in this video how to be a good winger.
Austrian composer Peter Ablinger has created a "speaking" piano. Ablinger digitized a child's voice reciting the Proclamation of the European Environmental Criminal Court to "play" on the piano via MIDI sequencer. Apparently, the computer is connected to the piano, which analyzes the human speech, and then converts it to key-tapping.
Chicago cops, the FBI, Homeland Security, Secret Service and a large number of unnamed others have established a high-tech secret command center to surveil people exercising their First Amendment right in Chicago as the NATO war council unfolds this weekend.
This article is a must read for all of you mediocre crossword enthusiasts who can only dream of meeting Will Shortz. (I put myself in this category.)
These Dutch architects fear that those Chinese drivers might get confused! You may think I'm making a cheap joke about Chinese drivers. But I'm not. The Hong Kong-Zhuai-Macau bridge is a 31-mile, $10.7 billion project and this unique design is meant to address a clash of two driving conventions.
HTC is developing the latest Nexus phones for Google, according to a recent tweet from Evan Blass, a well-known phone leaker. Android Police backed up Blass's tweet and added that a source told them the new handsets will be named "Marlin" and "Sailfish."

Some of these look like illustrations done by adolescent sci-fi/anime nerds. Totally unreal. A selection from National Geographic's best space pictures of 2010:

LIFE magazine has posted a gallery of bizarrely wonderful old school scientific models. Don't miss the giant fetus or massive colon (double ew). Behold, science education before computers ruled our world.
For as much money as they've made from North American video game audiences over the years, Japanese game developers don't seem to have very much faith in them. Dozens of great titles from their 40 years in the industry have appeared in Japan and across Europe, oftentimes even in English. But they never make it over to America, like Mother 3, Last Window: Midnight Promise, Dragon Force 2, and Tobal No. 2 (that one didn't even hit Europe).
No longer do you need special glasses to experience 3D. At least, that's what Nintendo claims when it comes to their upcoming Nintendo 3DS, which uses a process called autostereoscopy.
Right along tiramisù, crème brûlée is one of the most famous European desserts. It's really quite simple to make and had few ingredients, so don't go out and buy that prepackage crème brûlée, because it just isn't the same. Make it from scratch, right at home, with this video recipe.

MineCon 2011 (held at the Mandalay Bay in Vegas) was in a word, awesome. The crowd was overwhelmingly young, the vibe was fun and nerdy, and best of all, the costumes were inspired. Below are my favorites, which unfortunately aren't of the best quality (lighting was low and super yellow, which wasn't helped much by my standard point-and-shoot). If you happened to attend Minecon as well, post about your experience to the community corkboard... if you're pictured below, please comment!
