Minecraft Adventures: Questworld Shipwrecked #1

This is the beginning to one of my favorite Minecraft series, Shipwrecked. Three guys (Brent, Eric & Wes) film themselves as they go through an Adventure Map called Shipwrecked. Brent, Eric and Wes really get into character and make this series a must-see! It's hilarious and so much fun to just watch them as they go through the quest lines.

News: Origami Sierpinski Tetrahedron Constructed with 250+ Modules

I've already posted a brief roundup of interesting models folded by Michal Kosmulski, expert orgami-ist and IT director at NetSprint. However, I didn't include my favorite model, because I felt it deserved its own post. Kosmulski folded an elaborate and large Sierpinski tetrahedron, which he deems "level 3" in difficulty. (Translation: hard). It is constructed with 128 modules and 126 links, based on Nick Robinson's trimodule.

News: 20 Amazing Minecraft Costumes at MineCon 2011

MineCon 2011 (held at the Mandalay Bay in Vegas) was in a word, awesome. The crowd was overwhelmingly young, the vibe was fun and nerdy, and best of all, the costumes were inspired. Below are my favorites, which unfortunately aren't of the best quality (lighting was low and super yellow, which wasn't helped much by my standard point-and-shoot). If you happened to attend Minecon as well, post about your experience to the community corkboard... if you're pictured below, please comment!

News: Tom Friedman's Twisted Math Art

Tom Friedman is one of my favorite artists. He's got a great sense of humor, and his work is meticulous and beautiful. He forays into Math Art, and from a partisan perspective, he seems to be inspired by mathematics, but the end results are more of a whimsical twist than a mathematically "correct" execution. But I could be totally wrong. Comment below and fill me in.

News: Vibrant Color Photography Challenge: Yellow

Oooh. Since I already eliminated myself, I can just fill up the corkboard. Ok. I really won't do that. But I had to share this one. I think this is my favorite abstract light painting. This was taken in Las Vegas. I think this was using lights from one of the hotels in the Mandalay bay complex. 15 second exposure I think.

How To: Promote a Web Comic

There’s a lot going on in your head when creating a comic book and it doesn’t stop after it’s done. There are other things that you have to do once your comic book goes online. You have to market it, introduce it to the right market, and find a way how to get it published.

How To: Build Your Own Terrarium

Do you have a green thumb but an extremely limited living space? Try building your own DIY terrarium. All you need is a clear glass or plastic container, a few of your favorite plants, and some cheap gardening supplies to start your own self-contained, self-sustained miniature garden.

News: +Tyler Neylon Creates 50 Models with 50 Legos

+Tyler Neylon, a programmer and mathematician currently specializing in iOS app development, recently posted a fun project to his Google+ profile: 50 designs with 50 LEGO pieces, a set of 51 photos. Given a small 50-piece Lego set this past Christmas (well, Tyler admits: "...58 [pieces], actually, but many of them are very small, as you can see"), he craftily stretched his imagination to create 50 different models, though the kit included instructions for only 3.

How To: 6 Easy Recipes for Removing Nasty Stains

What do you do when you accidentally stain your favorite article of clothing with coffee, red wine, or pasta sauce? If you aren't within immediate reach of laundry detergent or commercial stain removers, you can use many common household staples such as baking soda and white vinegar to remove the offending stains right away—sometimes even better than their commercial counterparts.

News: Iceland in the Fall

I traveled to Iceland this past fall to see Iceland Airwaves, a music festival held in Reykjavik. While the festival was pretty great, I regret spending so much time (4 days) in the capital city. A day is enough—spend as much time as you can wandering the wide variety of natural wonders spread across the tiny 40k square mile country. Pictured below, some of my favorite stops: Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa, natural hot springs, the beautiful Hotel Budir, and more.

How To: Roll Your Own Sushi

The next time you are craving sushi, how about making it yourself? All you need is some sushi rice (you CAN use leftover white rice, but this would taste better), sheets of nori (seaweed), a sushi rolling mat and your favorite sushi ingredients. Do the classic California roll (avocado, imitation crab meat, cucumber, daikon radish) or go crazy with your own unique sushi invention (tempeh? smoked salmon? shredded kale? Anything goes).

Breakfast Interrupted: Tangled Food Captured Midair at 1,000 FPS

They're not the fastest in the world, but Vision Research's line of Phantom high-speed cameras produce some of the best slow motion effects on the web. They can turn violent punches into a chaotic scene of distorted skin and repulsive sweat, or make a night's stay in a hotel room more exciting. Now breakfast gets the Phantom treatment in Breakfast Interrupted, where America's favorite meal gets captured in midair at 1,000 frames per second.

News: Street Food Fanatic.

Being a street food fanatic I took a picture of one of my favorite street foods. This street food belongs to the super cholesterol loaded level. But the taste was so awesome and only @ P5.00 I am having a hard time saying no to this:

News: Best places for fabric?

I admit it, I'm lucky - I currently live about an hour away from the Fabric District in LA, and was recently just about ten miles down Pico Boulevard from it. So I'm incredibly spoiled - I'm used to being able to find crushed panne velvet for four dollars a yard, or a rich brocade for six dollars a yard. A friend and I once found some faux fur for about fifty dollars a yard - which sounds expensive until I say that the pile was about two and a half inches long, a rich brown color and 60" wide.

How To: Decorate With Party Entertainment in Mind

Decorating With Entertainment in Mind Sure, when you're throwing a party it's easy to put up balloons and streamers, but it's easy to forget one of the most important things: memories. You know all that money you spent on entertainment? The clown? The magician? You're naturally going to want to snap some photos, but if you don't decorate properly, the photos will be bland. And that's just one of the potential problems.

HowTo: Make Lasagna Cupcakes

The idea of lasagna mixed with cupcakes may sound gnarly, but you can relax, the phrase "cupcake" simply refers to how these individually-sized lasagna bites are portioned. As cute as our favorite pizza cups, this clever recipe makes for a great portable lunch. The secret ingredient? Wonton wrappers.
