Freshly leaked video from GDC 11. Video quality is so-so, but the content is simply amazing! I'm still a big CoD fan (yeah, yeah, yeah. While everyone else fights about which is a better FPS, I enjoy them both). But let me tell you, this is going to be one HELL OF A GAME! If user experience is anything close to what the developers are promising and showing, this game will have a huge impact on the future of FPS. I can't wait!

It's axiomatic: if you want to know what's different, look to what's the same. And, if you want to know what's the same, look to what's different. What makes Irina Werning's Back to the Future project so amazing then is that, in matching everything that can be matched, she helps us instantly hone in on what can't. In most cases, viewers notice just one thing—the effects of the passage of time on the subjects of the photographs. It's very strange and sometimes even unsettling. But also really,...

Below, designer Chris Woebken's Flicflex isn't a new concept (Woebken displayed it at MOMA in '08), but still amazingly cool. And still not on the consumer market. Watch his paper thin, magazine-like "page turning": "Opening a letter, unfolding it and feeling the texture of the paper is a very tactile experience compared to receiving an e-mail. On top of the content itself, the behavior and micro-interactions adds a level of engagement to the medium. Flicflex explores the possibilities of fut...

From Salon.com "AB 32 mandates that California must reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by the year 2020. But California's crazy government-by-initiative system means that just because a law has been passed by the California House and Senate and signed by the governor doesn't make it secure. On the ballot this November, voters will get their own chance to weigh in on AB 32 by deciding whether or not to pass Proposition 23, the misleadingly named "California Jobs Initiative."

Here's another latest in robotics: researchers at the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) have developed a robot that flips pancakes. The most interesting aspect of the project is the use of kinesthetic teaching, in which the user "trains" the robot by example. The user grasps the robot's limb, and guides it through the motions the user would like it to adopt. This bot takes about 50 trials to get it, but in the end succeeds. A switch reverses the process. Feeling ambitious? Head over to Instructables for complete instructions on how to build your own pair.

For as much as Shane Hurlbut ASC's name is ostensibly everywhere right now for all the wrong reasons (re: Christian Bale, 5D challenge, etc.), as a cinematographer I think he's extremely talented. The photography and camera work in "The Greatest Game Every Played" are very underrated and the futuristic look he gave to "Terminator Salvation" is both stunning and unique.
