G+Me is one of our favorite Chrome extensions here at Google+ Insider's Guide. We love it because it's one of the most comprehensive extensions out there. It attempts to address the "noisy streams" issue, with list mode, and collapsible posts and comments. The creator, +Huy Zing, is very responsive to feedback, and he's been quick to address any issues that arise, including privacy concerns. He's even created a G+Me (Paranoid Edition) extension, for the extra careful Google+ user. And if you ...

The Power of One is one of those books that I really should have read years ago. I’ve certainly meant to read it for a long time so this was a satisfying title to cross off my list. It’s stunning that this was Bryce Courtenay’s first novel. I look forward to reading his others because if this is where he started, he’s a talented writer.
Private browsing is all the rage with browsers these days. Once you go into private browsing mode, you can traverse the internet without leaving a trail. Your history? Deleted. Your cookies? Destroyed. Your bookmarks and non-private history? Preserved for when you come back to the surface.
You know what day it is. MLK is one of the most powerful orators in the history of the world. No doubt. Black history month is upon us.
I'll admit it, yes, I support protesting. It doesn't matter what my opinions are about any individual protest—overall, it is a human right and the only way to avoid tyranny. We can't deify Ghandi and demonize American protesters. That shows a silly shortsightedness that we can't afford to dabble in.
Google+ isn't filled with just Google workers and tech-obsessed nerds. Many creative people are part of the community, and they're using Google+ to connect with their fans. Authors, especially, love talking to people about their work. We've rounded up the best published authors for you to follow on Google+. We've listed their best known works so that you can get an idea of the topics they write about.
See a burning building? Hold all calls to the fire department. Canadian artist Isabelle Hayeur fools passerbyers with her installation, "Fire with Fire", an artwork that creates the illusion of a fire-swept four-story heritage building in the downtown eastside of Vancouver. "The Downtown Eastside is the oldest neighbourhood in Vancouver; it is also the most run-down. This historic area is infamous for being plagued by social problems due to poverty. Before falling prey to serious urban decay,...
Do you have AMNESIA? How about SYPHILIS? Or have you gotten SODOMIZED? Well, the people pictured below do, and I don't feel sorry for them, not at all——those words would kill on the SCRABBLE board!
Shannon Brown makes what might possibly be the greatest missed dunk of all time in the fourth quarter of the Suns v. Lakers basketball game last night.

From Richard Nixon -- "I'm not a crook" -- to Bill Clinton -- "I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky" -- to Marion Barry -- "It's all made up... I don't know what happened" -- to John Edwards --"The story is false... It's completely untrue, ridiculous" -- American politicians have had a history of political deception, or at least stretching the truth.
The History of Propaganda Exposed. An in depth look at subliminal programming and the Father of Propaganda, Edward Bernays.
s the Kony 2012 movement a fraud designed to justify another U.S. military invasion into another country? With oil reserves in Uganda speculated to be as large as those in Saudi Arabia, it wouldn't be a surprise. The Kony 2012 movement is VERY popular and seems to have a good intention. Let's just make sure we don't repeat history. QUESTION EVERYTHING, then you can support it!
Many times throughout history companies have been hacked by so-called "grey-hatters": hackers who do ambiguously ethical things with their computer skills. Often enough, after being hacked the companies actually offer to hire the hacker, but not always (as you see in this case). Just a reminder that you need to watch what you are doing. Never do anything illegal unless you don't mind facing the consequences!
Check out iPhone app, LEGO Photo. It converts any photo to look like it's built from Legos. Best of all, it's free. I used a photo of a dinosaur I submitted to a previous challenge in Giveaway Tuesdays. See the original here.
To most gamers, video games are largely devoid of place. In the post-arcade era, the only real world locations most associate with video games are GameStop and the couch. But there's so much more to them than that!
The Australian government has a dysfunctional history with video games. Any regular Yahtzee Croshaw follower can attest to that. The Parliament has established a series of unfortuante regulations that make games both highly taxed and overregulated in price. Bringing any goods all the way to an island in the bottom of the world is expensive to begin with, and new games in Australia can tip the scales at $80 or more.
Xe Systems, the Private-Defense-Contractor-Formerly-Known-As-Blackwater, has been busy attempting to re-brand themselves. They have a new name, several new sub-names, and have at least titularly shifted their focus to training rather than mercenary work. Controversial founder Erik Prince is no longer with the company, which is now owned by a large investment consortium.
Terrence Malick's TREE OF LIFE recently won the Palme D'Or at Cannes and opens in theatres this friday. We asked Malickian scholar Matthew Price to examine the master's body of work in this week's Very Important Dudes And Dudettes in Film History Show

This is just down the road from a Boy Scout camp I use a lot, Camp Josepho. It's an interesting part of Los Angeles history - has anyone ever visited this place?
Cyriak's latest animation features '50s stock footage remixed into a horror show. Our dark and twisted animator keeps churning them out, each creepier than the last. Be warned: "a journey into horribleness, not recommended for the faint-hearted or fragile-minded..." More by Cyriak:
Wes Craven is a very important dude in film history because of his major contributions to the horror genre as we know it. Also he has the coolest name...
Wes Craven is a very important dude in film history primarily because of his role in shaping the modern horror genre into what it is today. Plus he has a really badass sounding name.
LIFE magazine has posted a gallery of bizarrely wonderful old school scientific models. Don't miss the giant fetus or massive colon (double ew). Behold, science education before computers ruled our world.
As some of you may know, contemporary king of kitsch Jeff Koons exhibited at the French palace of Versailles last year. While the exhibition was embraced by many as an exciting context for contemporary art, predictably old fogies and critics of the art market balked.
lol. Personally, I used his calls as ring tones. If you like the video, there is another one at cracked. It's based on his movie Ransom and it's just hilarious towards the end:

The Very Important Dudes and Dudettes in Film History Show: Ray Harryhausen edition. The elemental master of stop-motion monsterry.
Check out the google maps of all world cup venues. Some street views actually go inside the stadium!! Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, South Africa is one of the few stadiums at sea level.
Cool infographic about the history of improvements in ball and shoe design across the world cup years.
VERY IMPORTANT DUDES & DUDETTES IN FILM HISTORY Show: Harold Ramis. He's kinda been involved in one way or another with almost all of the funny things and people over the last 30 years, so maybe he counts as a Very Important Dude?
The iconic Girl With a Pearl Earring, by Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer, is widely considered one of art history's most seminal paintings. Artist James Mylne spent 90 hours copying the image, using just one Bic Cristal pen. Kudos. That shading took some serious skill (and patience).
Great article about cassette labels and their place in history & the present. Plus a list of current cassette labels still going strong.
This is a thorough and comprehensive look at each iteration of Alice in Wonderland. It's also a wonderful mini-history of film and special effects and animation.
