Toy Challenge: Let's Get Physical!
This pic was taken with a Samsung Infuse, and I used the Vignette Demo app. I'm new to the camera phone thing, so be kind!

As WonderHowTo staff, I'm disqualified from winning... so I'm pulling a Cory ;) and posting a few images. These were taken over the summer during my trip to Bali. The culture and landscape were so beautiful, almost every shot I got had beautiful color.
Mini Blinds When your looking for a bargain on window treatments, look no further than mini blinds. Mini Blinds are those aluminum blinds you probably recognize from when you were a kid or the ones you see in your office building. They are incredibly inexpensive when compared to other traditional window treatments but still function and offer clean-lines for the room.
Scientists have good and bad news for hard-driving people who boast they need only six hours of sleep a night. The good news is a few may be right: Researchers at the University of California-San Francisco have identified a family with a genetic mutation that causes members to require only six hours sleep a night. The bad news? The gene is vanishingly rare in humans, found in less than 3% of people.
Some may say riding tandem is reserved for girly girls, seniors and little kids, but anybody would be hard pressed to call brotherly X-Gamer duo Colton and Caleb Moore sissies. At first thought, executing a two-men-clutching-each-other-on-a-snowmobile-backflip might be construed as somewhat odd, but the risk of two dudes potentially falling to their death is two times more thrilling than just one.
Look at this book, kids. It's empty. Write it......now. I mean it. Do it. Im a cat. I can do it. I cant do it. Roller coaster. Keyboard. MOMMA. Cell phone. Just giving you ideas for the book.
"Your bathroom is a minefield of toxins." Sounds a wee bit dramatic, no? But the video isn't kidding around here. A lot of the shampoos, lotions, creams, and soaps you use have ingredients linked to birth defects, cancer, and learning handicaps. And just think about it - we're using these gnarly ingredients on our skin every single day.
A few blocks from the jewelry factory's entrance in La Paz, Bolivia, Julia and Maria look over their shoulders to see if the night guards are watching. The two young Aymara Indian women shiver in the cold night air and lower their heads as they speak.

Kids! They grow up so fast! While parents have traditionally used growth charts to document their children's development, modern moms and dads have a far better tool: YouTube! The process is a simple one: take a snapshot every day—or nearly every day—and then, after a set interval, condense the photos into a time lapse. The end product? "Stop motion human growth."
This kid has an amazing sense of humor and big balls. It takes both to go on national television and breakdance on a gigantic prosthetic erection.
Anna the Red, the internet's resident Queen of Bento, has created an elaborate Halloween Bento Box based on video game Costume Quest: "an adorable role-playing adventure game created by Double Fine. It takes place on Halloween night, kids in costume trick-or-treating and fighting monsters to save a kidnapped sibling while collecting costumes."
get a local news station to film a fake amber alert with the subject of the prank being the one who stole the kid. hijack the persons cable and play the breaking new so they can see it and get freaked out no this might be the hard part. get the cops or even swat to show up at the house asking him release the hostage. when he gives him self up thinking he has done nothing wrong have a cop go in to the house and walk out with the child that was on the amber alert. now just arrest him and wait t...
The Summer themed items are here! Tuesday 8-24
Kool-aid + Sno Cones + LEDs. For some of us (e.g. small kids), it doesn't get much better than that.
Indianapolis-based motor junkie Paul Stender and his team of vehicle modders called the Indy Boys Inc have created the ultimate anti-fuel economy: a school bus outfitted with a Phantom fighter jet engine, which clocks 367 mph and burns 150 gallons of fuel in just a quarter mile. Stender says:
To follow up on the Devil's Fork, here is the trailer for Limbo. From the Wiki:The primary character in Limbo is a nameless boy who awakes in the middle of a forest on the "edge of hell" (the game's title is taken from the Latin limbus, meaning "edge")[1] who then begins to seek out his missing sister. It looks innocent, but if you watch the trailer, you can see the kid stepping on dead bodies and so gruesome deaths. It's out on the 360 via XBLA, I don't know if it's out on any other platform.
Turf dancing (Acronym: Taking Up Room on the Floor) is a form of street dance of similar vein to krumping. Basic dance elements include mimeing and popping & locking; and the free-flowing style is intended to portray a narrative- not totally unlike Gene Kelly's intention in Singin' In the Rain: In contrast to the classic 50's musical, the talented kids below bring a similar concept into the 21st century, and their performance is strikingly beautiful.
I've raved about my awesome experience volunteering for KCRW at our sister world Luv and Music and the time has come around again. Here's your chance to help support one of the best public radio stations ever, right here in Santa Monica. I'll be there Tuesday 8/10 (08:00am - Noon) and even convinced a few friends to join in. See you there volunteers!
Here at WonderHowTo, we certainly have an affinity for outer space-related topics, so I couldn't pass up this horrifying video of a man who just barely survived a simulated space vacuum.
Harlem / The Black Apples / Audacity @ The Echo ($10) Here's your chance to check out Harlem before they begin their tour with the Dead Weather.
A great way to prepare for your first camping trip is to go camping in your backyard. Benefits:
Seems just about anything can be constructed with LEGOs these days. You name it- a printer, an engine, an ATM, guns... even a house!
Words can't express how awesome this is. These South Korean soccer fans make the American sports stadium tradition of "The Wave" look utterly pathetic in comparison. And high school kids, nonetheless! Via YouTube,
Are you a horrible parent if you let your 4 year old play Grand Theft Auto, a pretty vulgar and violently explicit video game? Nah. Also, your 4 year old won't play like your average 13 year old or even 17 year old. This kid, instead of beating up hookers and going on murderous rampages, drops people off at the hospital, puts out fires, and arrests criminals. Who knew?
Did you ever, as a know-nothing kid, push against your closed eyelids for the pleasure of the resultant light show? LCD bending takes the low-tech fun of physical retinal stimulation and updates it for the 21st century. And, as the title suggests, the end result looks very much like a sort of angelic, fractal-based fingerpainting.
If you've been watching the World Cup, you've likely become pretty damn annoyed by the vuvuzelas (even when played by kids as cute as above...). MOST of us have jobs, which means recording the games is necessary. As a solution, LifeHacker offers a simple equalization trick to remove vuvuzelas from an audio recording: Too complicated? Try this super simple trick posted on World Cup World.
Kevin Mathieu of California offers this interactive ART piece for rent at kids or adult parties. Based on a US Postal Jeep, this LEGO jeep is equipped with LEGO surfaces throughout its shape to stick LEGO's to. After writing a 40 page art proposal LEGO gave Kevin 600 lbs of LEGOs, but he is still looking for more. So if you live in the San Francisco Bay Area be on the lookout for the LEGO JEEP.

This kid looks less than pleased (skip to 2:37). The goal of Swarm-bots is to show how many small robots can work together to achieve a larger task (such as dragging a little girl's body across the floor):
Sweet little bug cakes by Japan's Komatsuya Honten bakery make an interesting belated Valentine's Day treat. Interesting tidbit of Valentine's Day trivia: in Japan, women give chocolate to men for Valentine's Day, not the other way around.
No kidding, watch below as 500,000 volts of electricity literally course over a man's body. Of course, he has a little protection: the faraday suit. The video was shot in Austin, Texas, for a German television documentary. Producer Johannes Wiebus is quoted as saying:
Take a tour of the ISS (International Space Station), just posted on YouTube this week. The ISS is an international project, including the five participant space stations: American National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Russian Federal Space Agency (RKA), the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), and the European Space Agency (ESA).
16-year-old Alexander Kendrick has invented a low-frequency radio that allows for cave-texting, meaning deep underground cellular communication.
We have seen it before (previous post: Human Powered Ferris Wheel), but it never gets any less amazing. Talk about resourcefulness. No need for electricity. Use humans to power your ferris wheel (if you had one sitting around... I wish I had one). Via Make,
