What better place to brave the Snowpocalypse than in a snowy simulacrum of a human skull? For those of you old enough to remember He-Man, yes, that's Castle Grayskull. And, oddly enough, the artist, Kilroy III, has actually done this before—nearly 20 years ago:
Daito Manabe is awesome. Last we heard of him, he was setting up Japanese school girls with glow-in-the-dark grills. Before that, he was playing himself like a human drum kit. And before that, he was just plain old electroshocking himself. In his most recent appearance, he takes his electro-pulsed facial twitches to the stage, with fellow artist Ei Wada, before an audience at Berlin’s Transmediale Festival.
Mike Doyle's latest LEGO house (perhaps even more hauntingly beautiful than the last) is a Victorian mansion that transcends the material so effectively, the plastic reads like real rotting bricks and mortar. Beautiful house-devouring trees, created with LEGO hinge cylinders to mimic the texture of tree bark, and ridged 3 mm hose, droid arms and other technic connectors for the creepy, spindly branches.
Improv Everywhere's 10th annual no-pants subway ride gave 10,000 New Yorkers an excuse to ride the tubes in their skivvies this month. Good, but not as good as last year's April Fools faux-genital baring ride. Scroll below the video of the NYC ride to see other participating cities around the world.
A testament of man vs. machine will air on February 14th, 15th, and 16th when IBM's supercomputer "Watson" is pitted against the world's fiercest Jeopardy players, Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter, for a chance to win a cool $1 million. It took researchers four years to build Watson, a machine mastermind the size of ten refrigerators and equipped with complex algorithms capable of decoding the complexities of the human language (no small feat). Watch below as Watson kicks ass in a practice round ...
Dear Fellow Glass Lover, last summer I wanted to build my own website with Drupal to create a glass art community. But just now I found out it is not necessary. WonderHowTo.com has it up and running already. All we have to do now is fill it with content. Please become a contributing member, upload your videos, how to tips in the Blog and pin your glass art related events on the Corkboard. This is not my site - this is a glass art community site.
These Cupcake burgers are so much fun. You can make them yourself and serve them at the party, or make them a part of the fun. The last 5 pictures are pics of the burger cupcake craft at my daughter 4th of July summer school party. These 4, 5, and 6 year olds did an amazing job. The sloppier the burgers the better! With colored frosting for the ketchup and mustard, chopped up gummy bears for the relish and tomatoes, and coconut for the onions, and died coconut for the lettuce--the burgers wer...
This is just a comment but I'd like really much if u take it as an advice too
Yes, there are endless iPhone apps out there (and some are pretty ingenious). And yes, it does seem like the iPhone can do just about anything (truly... anything!). But the magical device failed a would-be robber last week.
Australian racing organization V8 Supercars have built an oversized skateboard equipped with a V8 engine for Tony Hawk. Hawk was scheduled to ride the beast last week, but it appears no video footage has been posted yet.
Looks like Yves Rossy is getting better at flying (his previous stunt sent him plummeting into the Atlantic). Other than some slight initial engine trouble, last week's record breaking aerial loops went off without a hitch. Watch below. Rossy's site states:
As Halloween is creeping closer, it's just about time for the last-ditch, cheap and easy costumes. But cheap and easy doesn't necessarily have to mean shoddy. Jason Lau's Stormtrooper helmet is clever, resourceful and possesses an endearing DIY spirit that store bought costumes seriously lack.
Hubba hubba. DP Shots has compiled a collection of 40 CG images of steamy girl artworks. Some of the girls look so real, you think you could touch them. Except you can't. Sorry.
If you missed the Late Night With Jimmy Fallon episode last night, no worries! We've got it covered. This life-size Operation Board is amazing to behold, and be sure to watch Johnny Knoxville go for the "bread basket". We've always wondered what that was referring to. Turns out it's a slang term for the stomach, and it'll net you 1000 points! Tell us how you thought this Operation in Real Life turned out!
For some, adrenaline beats out every time. Though I've seen countless videos of base jumping, the sport never ceases to amaze. The video below, Last Walk Around Mirror Lake – Boom Bip (Boards of Canada Remix), is no exception to the rule. Shot in Norway, FroschYankee's footage is nothing short of stunning. *For more info, check out Adrenaline Rush (The Science of Risk), the film which this clip was featured in.
Will the bot band be to 2017 what the boy band was to 1997? You be the judge! In the videos below, two such groups offer electro-mechanical renditions of the B-52s' "Rock Lobster" and Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody." Creator James Cochrane writes, "What do you get when you combine retro computer parts and an up and coming robot band? The Bit-52s! This idea has been simmering in my mind for the last couple of years and after many months of procrastinating it is finally complete. I was also motivat...
From LAist: Meg Whitman has set a new record, having now spent more of her own money on her gubernatorial campaign than any politician has spent in US history, according to abc7.
Look, I like DIY project as much as the next girl but on your wedding day why skimp and DIY when there are honest affordable florists out there. Seriously I did my entire wedding floral arrangements for under $800 and that was a lot of flowers (Bouquets, corsages, boutonnieres, center pieces, etc. etc. etc.). Down To The Last Petal does awesome work and they are honestly AFFORDABLE while looking gorgeous!!!
The world's first bee populated billboard features 10,000 of the insects, drawn in from a local honey bee farm, using queen bee pheromones. The billboard is a call to action for England’s diminishing bee population, which has decreased by 50% in the last 20 years.
Dress up the Jackass guys like women, including high heels. Place them in a rodeo arena. Have the Jackass crew sit at a table in the middle of the rodeo. Act out a bad theatre play with the crew discussing random thing and drinking coffee. Release a bull into the arena to chase down each of the Jackass guys. The last person to leave the arena is declared the winner. The losers get to enjoy a nice cup of bull piss.
From the Huffington Post: Billionaire Republican Meg Whitman reported Monday that she has spent more than $99 million in her quest to become California's governor, while Democrat Jerry Brown is saving money for what could become the most expensive gubernatorial contest in American history.
You tell us. It's quite possible Christopher Nolan locked The Dream of a Lifetime into his memory bank, not knowing years later it would subconsciously shape Inception:
It's here! Thank you Amazon release date delivery! ^_^ What's in the normal package?
Hands down, the ULTIMATE bar trick. This dude has some seriously steady hands. It's gotta be all in the steering... right?
The Gowanus Studio Space Jell-O Mold Competition winners are in, and this year is every bit as impressive as last year. The grand prize goes to Shelly Sable for her piece: "Aspic Ascension-- Tastes Like Heaven".
Hot Hot Heat / Voxhaul Broadcast / The Union Line @ Bootleg ($12) Hot Hot Heat continues it's Wednesday residency at the Bootleg Theater and the shows are so good. I went last week and had a great time dancing to songs like this one! And yes, they played Bandages for the encore! (Free parking in the lot across the street, look out for the sign in front)
Check out their video: Half Full Glass Of Wine I saw Tame Impala at the Echo last night and was blown away. These psychedelic rockers kinda sound like a modern day Beatles. They are blowing up! Bummed I can't see them again tonight.
Every one needs to know their knots. Wether your a sailor or a hiker or just the random person, you are going to come across knots EVERYWHERE.
Who new the South Whidbey Assembly of God sponsored our annual 3rd of July fireworks in Freeland. And does anyone care? I just like fireworks and having the celebration on the 3rd suite me fine as I can't get enough fireworks. Alas this year we will miss for the 2nd year in a row (last year watched awesome show from the water in Poulsbo). We will be seeing what St. Simons GA has to offer. I think they are sponsored by the local synagogue (watch out for exploding matzo balls). At least being f...
Hey now! Brazil, Paraguay, Chile, Argentina and Uruguay are doing very well in their respective groups. The are all expected to qualify to the final 16. In fact, they are doing better than any other continent. Europe's top flight teams are disappointing, as are the host African nations.
INSANE what you can do with a truckload of packing tape. Viennese/Croatian design collective For Use/Numen uses the common junk drawer office supply to create massive, self-supportive cocoons that visitors can climb inside and explore.
Posted with permission via HereComeTheYanks.com Ok, so my prediction of a 3-1 USA victory didn't come true. But I can honestly say that I am extremely happy with a 1-1 draw!! There were times where we looked shaky (first 15 minutes). But there were also times when we were taking it to them (Jozy's great run down the flank only to be denied by the woodwork).
TV newscasters love to run stories about out of control parents fighting at youth sporting events. Here is an example of a story
Check out this article from the LA Times that picks through how awesome Red Dead Redemption is for its creators Take Two.
Last night (June 1, 2010) some new limited edition items were released for the Tuscan theme. The Castello, Tuscan Villa and Rosetta Hall were added to the buildings tab in the market.
I was shooting last Friday and for a particular shot I wanted a special on a product; I wanted it focused, but soft. Unfortunately we had run out of flags to cut it so my Key Grip came up with a great DIY solution: cut a hole in black wrap, put it on a stand a few feet away from the light (Dedo 400W HMI) and cover that hole with a light diffusion (Opal). The distance from the light guaranteed a defined shape while the diffusion softened up the light itself.
Or so says embroidery artist Catherine McEver. The quirky creator also says: "How long do they last? I have a couple of slices that are over four years old that look just like new."
The outside hook utilizes what is called the "dummy": feigning to go one way before going the other. This psychological compoment is extremely imperative for successfully bypassing your tight marker.
What Am I Doing???? Last night, I was reminded on the negative impacts of striving for perfection. It's not possible to be perfect. We describe many things as being perfect. IE, an afghan, a hat, a tablecloth and more over, there is always something better... a different colour, a slightly different pattern, and so on. As time progesses, the colours we choose this fall might be the OUT colours of next fall.
