News: Supreme Court Deems Violent Video Games Protected Under Freedom of Speech

Video games are the newest major expressive media. As such, their role in society is still being defined continuously. A monumentally important example of this took place yesterday at the US Supreme Court. After a long deliberation, the highest court in the land handed down a decision invalidating a California law banning the sale of violent video games to minors on the grounds that video games are protected speech under the First Amendment, like movies and books.

How To: Photoshop the Universe (Just Like NASA Does)

NASA just released this beautiful image of what's leftover from a supernova explosion. The red cloud is expanding cosmic debris, the blue is a blast wave of electrons, and the stripes at the edge tell of a high energy burst of x-rays that may be bound for earth. This image was enhanced—Photoshopped—so that scientists can have an easier time interpreting the picture and so that the public can have an easier time appreciating the beauty of nature.

Last Friday's mission was to accomplish solving HackThisSite, realistic 4. The fourth in a series of realistic simulation missions was designed to be exactly like a situation you may encounter in the real world. This time, we are told "Fischer's Animal Products is a company that slaughters animals and turns their skin into overpriced products which are then sold to rich bastards! News: Evil Google Prank of the Century: Turn Your Ex Into a Meme

After an assumedly nasty break up, Jack Weppler's ex-girlfriend decided to smite him in the most public way possible. The wronged girl uploaded a pile of defamatory images to a picture-hosting website with Weppler's name as the filename, and Google image search did its magic. Labeling this a computer prank may be a stretch—it's probably something more along the lines of psycho-angry-ex-girlfriend-goes-completely-and-utterly-nuts—but it's whip clever, it's DIY, and pretty hilarious.
