The outer skin is nearing completion with only one more lava panel to go (in addition to 2 more water panels on the inner-sphere, but they're a cinch compared to the 1-2 month slog each lava and double-glass panels take to make).
Here's a nice little challenge for you to try this weekend. For those of you with Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, and are looking to make an easy 25G, this is for you. The 'How Pedestrian' achievement asks you to walk the entirety of the level "Halo". You know, the massive second level of the game. However, there's one big obstacle standing in your way, and that's where the Achievement Hunters come in. See, you have to grenade jump your way across a pretty large gap. I'd try to explain it, ...
Jiiang Chen and Yang Junlin, of the Wing Wah metalcraft factory in Huizhou, China, forged together a 10,000-pound replica of the Megatron tank as seen in the movie Transformers 2. The tank is from a series of other massive works from the company's "Legend of Iron" project (see last year's insane Megatron below). The tank was assembled and welded together with mostly scrap metal by the two expert craftsmen. In a word... insane.
When I first saw Stacy of The Birthday Blog's gigantic S'more, I'll admit, I got pretty excited at the prospect of eating a massive marshmallow. But then I realized that Stacy's oversized S'more is actually a clever cake decorating ploy, assembled with a custom-sized, homemade graham cracker, a giant hunk of melted down chocolate, and a white frosted cake. Facade or not, it'll go perfect with your colossal Kit Kat, or your epic Gummi Bear.
INSANE what you can do with a truckload of packing tape. Viennese/Croatian design collective For Use/Numen uses the common junk drawer office supply to create massive, self-supportive cocoons that visitors can climb inside and explore.

There's been a proliferation of pitched PVC xylophones in recent times, but a lot of them end up being somewhat cumbersome when it comes to actually get good sound quality. This guy has come up with the solution by making strange drum skins over the ends of the pipes. The result is a super cool sound coming out of a ridiculously cool-looking instrument.

Yep, that's Michael J. Fox himself (aka Marty McFly) inspecting an 8-foot-long Delorean cake, complete with flaming tire tracks. The facsimile was artfully crafted by cake decorating masters Ace of Cakes for the 25th anniversary of Back To The Future and the Blu-ray releases.
Everybody has some kind of calling in life and it looks like artist Frank Bölter's is the construction of life-sized origami boats. He's done it before, and he's at it again. His latest creation recently set sail on the Thames as a part of London's Drift10 art exhibition.
François Vautier built an art farm into his scanner and then proceeded to scan the farm each week for a duration of five years. Amazing time-lapsed result below. Inspired project... though perhaps not quite as inspired as the massive ant city filled with cement and then evacuated (video #2 in the gallery below). Insane. Don't miss it.

Soon, Americans may find every private email they write could be opened, copied and inspected by government snoopers. The latest cyber security bill – called CISPA – has passed the House of Representatives, coming a step closer to becoming law. President Barack Obama has threatened to veto the act, if it goes through in the Senate. He cited civil liberty concerns as the reason for his threat. CISPA has raised a massive outcry with internet users and freedom activists, who say it’s a hard hit ...
Monday 27 February, WikiLeaks began publishing The Global Intelligence Files – more than five million emails from the Texas-headquartered "global intelligence" company Stratfor. We were at the El Capitan on Sunday and while waiting for friends to show up we walked over to the massive Cirque du soleil Hollywood premiere for a few minutes. Around the time we were there celebrities were arriving so we just started taking pictures. I don't know a lot of celebrity names, some I only recognized by face (oh it's that dude from Swingers!), but this is the best shot I took above the crowd.
There are a lot of fantastic video games out there. Indie Games Ichiban's bread and butter is making sure that you steer clear of the bad ones and embrace the good. But really, the biggest goal here is to help everyone have more fun. To that end, today a game is not recommended, but an event. If you like games—not just video games—but tabletop, board and even hopscotch, then PAX Prime is one of the best events you could possibly go to.
Dactyloscopy isn’t going anywhere. Forensic science has much relied on fingerprinting as a means of identification, largely because of the massive amount of fingerprints stored in the FBI’s biometric database (IAFIS), which houses over 150,000 million prints. And thanks to the departure of messy ink-stained fingertips, biometric analysis isn’t just for solving crimes anymore.
About two months ago, the massive Gawker Media hack was a wake up call for many web denizens on the importance of proper password security. This project has been two years in the planning and it was the scariest, but most exciting thing I have ever done. Riding in complete darkness meant I had to go off feeling. I had to zone out fro...
I admit it, I'm lucky - I currently live about an hour away from the Fabric District in LA, and was recently just about ten miles down Pico Boulevard from it. So I'm incredibly spoiled - I'm used to being able to find crushed panne velvet for four dollars a yard, or a rich brocade for six dollars a yard. A friend and I once found some faux fur for about fifty dollars a yard - which sounds expensive until I say that the pile was about two and a half inches long, a rich brown color and 60" wide.
