News: Dr. Strangelove

Here is an interesting mini-doc about the set designer Ken Adam.  Here he discusses working on the Dr. Strangelove War Room set.  This style would influence many films to come and would become one of the most memorable graphic elements in film history.  The funniest thing about this doc is his story about Ronald Reagan who thought the War Room from Dr. Strangelove was a real place and he wanted to see it, now that is great design! Here is the very MOD movie trailer for "Dr. Strangelove"

News: FarmVille Uncensored

Innocence meets malignancy.  Expressiveness meets perversion.  Farmville meets Disturbia. Can you top these funny and disturbing FarmVille hay bale art masterpieces?  Surprisingly, few farmers have dedicated their farms to perversity—but maybe more should!  I'm surprised no one has designed boobs yet.  Most seem to prefer swastikas.

News: Is your dog healthy enough for Travel

Be honest about your pet's ability to travel. If your pet is very young or old, or is ill, pregnant, or recovering from surgery, it may be better for all concerned to look into a pet sitter or kennel rather than take a chance on injuring your pet by taking it with you. If you are in doubt, ask your veterinarian. If your pet has not traveled before, try a short overnight or weekend trip first.

News: foraging for food

Are you hungry? One of the great things about Los Angeles is the abundance of food. I'm not just talking about restaurants. You need to get out of your car, and walk around your neighborhood. You could make a great meal just from what you find out on the streets. It's free, and most of it's organic. Just be sure to wash any dirt off of your treasure before you bite.

Hammock - Breathturn (DP: Larkin Seiple)

I hesitate to even post screengrabs from this piece.  The storytelling by this creative team (dir. David Altobelli & DP Larkin Seiple) is so perfect that taking stills out of context doesn't do it justice.  At first, I was disappointed that the automatic thumbnail Vimeo chose was so nondescript but ultimately it's for the best.  Here's just a tease:

News: "How I’d Hack Your Weak Passwords"- The Art of Cracking

Lifehacker posts an article on the art of cracking weak passwords, courtesy of Internet standards expert, CEO of web company iFusion Labs, and blogger John Pozadzides. Pozadzides certainly knows a thing or two about password logic. (Note: this information is not intended to hack into accounts, but rather to protect you from using weak passwords).

News: l.a. botanical garden

People always say there's no green in Los Angeles, but that's not true. You just have to know where to look, and to find those pockets of greenery for yourself. One of the places I've been meaning to go back to is the Los Angeles Botanical Garden. It's full of pretty flowers and trees, and is a lot bigger than you think it is.
