Just came across this image in Google, and thought it was cool. It's from what was apparently the first ever Human vs. Computer Showdown in Toronto back in 2006. Former world Scrabble Champion David Boys, of Montreal, was defeated by computer super brain "Quackle".

It took researchers four years to build Watson, a machine mastermind the size of ten refrigerators and equipped with complex algorithms capable of decoding the complexities of the human language (no small feat). Watch below as Watson kicks ass in a practice round ...

Luckily for us, human aging is a long, slow process. One day newborn babe... 36,500 days later, you're old. Really old. And how you looked in between is all but forgotten. To see a side-by-side mapping of the long and slow human mutation process, check out Danish photojournalists Sofia Wraber and Nanna Kreutzmann's 101 photographs of males, ages 0 to 100.

Now imagine that you can push a button or say a word and now all the people around you become brunette. Then another setting makes everyone slightly shorter than you. All of this in realtime!

As sports fanatics, we know how central instant replay is in professional sports. The NFL proved it to any non-believer many years ago. Now the rest of the world is playing catch up. Yes, I am pointing my fingers at the FIFA idiots who run the World Cup. (UK was robbed against Germany). And baseball... Selig should apologize to Armando.
Upon first glance, one may think Mark Suppes is just another thirty-something-year-old dude living in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. However, the Gucci web designer by day has a significant (to say the least) project-in-progress by night. The amateur scientist bicycles to a non-descript building in Brooklyn to chip away at his homemade nuclear fusion reactor. BBC reports:
The battery-operated, Bluetooth-controlled pieces use downward-facing sensors to read grids built into the individual squares on the board. They then communicate with the controlling computer to keep track of their location in relation to other pieces. The computer tells each piece which direction to go, and how far, on its turn.
Don't worry, the robot apocalypse is not upon us...yet. Wired reports it may be closer than you think:

The idea of finding the area under a curve is an important fundamental concept in calculus. Consider a function y = f(x). Now the area under the curve is to be calculated. The area under a curve problem is stated as 'Let f(x) be non negative on [a, b]. Find the area of the region lying beneath the curve y = f(x) and above the x-axes, from x = a to x = b. Note that finding the area under a curve will imply that you are dealing with a non negative function. The way to approach is to divide the ...

Sometimes dolls will come with set-in stains that no stain remover can touch, or with scratches and gouges in the face. If your doll head is made of resin, in particular, do all your sanding underwater to pr...
