In this tutorial, we learn how to explain the broken heart line in palm reading. When a hand has a heart shape going towards the heart, but is broken this shows someone will be sympathetic and have a heartbreaking change in their life. There will be a break in the heart and their emotions will be tested. Look at the lines to make sure it's going towards the heart and not the head. The line to the head is curved. The shapes of the fingernails can tell if someone is cautious or if they hold ont...
This 3D software tutorial shows you how to use the cross section modifier in 3ds Max. The cross section modifier tool works on splines and is most often used when modeling with curves in 3D Studio Max. he CrossSection modifier creates a “skin” across multiple splines. It works by connecting the vertices of 3D splines to form a skin. The resulting object is another spline object that can be used with the Surface modifier to create a patch surface. These two modifiers, when used together, are s...
The PatchDeform modifier in 3ds Max deforms an object based on the contours of a patch object. This modifier works similarly to the PathDeform modifier, but uses a quad-based patch object instead of a spline shape or NURBS curve path. Patch Deform is a great tool for mapping geometry on a surface or the distribution of component on a surface in 3ds Max. The only catch is that the distribution geometry has to come from a surface originally made as a Patch. The surface cannot come from a set of...
Revit Architecture 2009 is out and has some pretty cool new features. The first one David Fano talks about is Sweep Blend. Imagine taking the blend tool and combining it with the sweep tool. It’s pretty much just that. Like in the blend you pick to shapes “profiles” to blend between except now you can o it along a path. You could easily experiment with surface continuity by importing 3D curves from Rhino but for now this video covers the basics of how the sweep blend feature in Revit Architec...
What makes a triathlon bike a triathlon bike? Check out this instructional cycling video that teaches you about angles, seating, position, aerobars, and the importance of a proper bike fit. In summary from the video, a triathlon bike has a steeper angle for the seat-tube which makes it more vertical thus allowing to get your hips and body more forward in the aero-position compared to road bikes. Triathlon bikes are made for 'aerobars' instead of the curved bars that one sees on road bikes. Wa...
PostSharp is an free, open-source and extensible platform for enhancement of .NET assemblies, that is: PostSharp transforms assemblies after compilation. Pretty abstract, isn't it? Not so much. It has great applications. PostSharp Laos, a Lightweight Aspect-Oriented Solution, provides aspect-oriented programming (AOP) to .NET Developers without the learning curve. This tutorial presents an introduction to the PostSharp programming language, one that's more than sufficient to get you started. ...

Tommy builds a custom scrub plane to work the side shapes of the bombe lower cabinet. He transposes the curve to the bottom edge of the plane and the blade and then shapes the tool. Once the plane is shaped, he shows off the new plane working the sides. PLANE, PLANE, PLANE... Nothing like making a tool before you start the job.

Who doesn't love Star Wars? No one, that's who. And if you love Stars Wars, logic would follow that you like lightsabers, so central are they to the tale's mythology. It's part sword, part laser, and makes a sound like a humming motor have multigasms. If I saw one in real life, I would struggle not to lick it, even though that would mean death.

Animals and insects make great cartoon characters. So get ready to learn how to draw a worm that turns into a bookworm. All you need is paper, pencil, marker, colored chalks or colored pencils, and an eraser. Start by drawing a squiggly line. Come around and double the line, keeping an equal distance from the other. Draw a curved shape for a head at the end. Draw large circles for his eyes and connect them to give him glasses. Draw his pupils going all the way to the right. Add two small eyeb...
Grab a pen and some paper and get ready to draw a fun animal toon! Join Bruce Blitz as he shows you how people can look like their pets and vice versa. You will need paper, pencil, markers, colored chalks or colored pencils and an eraser. Using your pencil, start by drawing 2 triangular shapes with curved edges, like guitar picks. One should be smaller than the other. The smaller one will be the dog and the larger, its owner. These will be guidelines for their faces. Using your marker, in the...

Here's a rich man's problem for you: two NYC East Village penthouse condos and the need for one combined living space. What do you do? Simply add a helical slide! When the homeowners came up with this fun idea for combining their two condos, they contracted architecture firm TCA to design and construct two separate options to descend and ascend between the two living spaces— an Italian-made "Rintal" stair (an open spiral staircase), or the much speedier and much livelier option: a stainless s...
If you’re so smart, why aren’t you rich? Although money and mental muscles may seem a natural match, brains, alas, may be more hindrance than help when it comes to getting rich, concludes a new study in the journal Intelligence.”It is still not well understood why some people are rich and others are poor,” writes study author Jay Zagorsky of Ohio State University. “Luck, timing, parents, choice of spouse and many other factors play important roles in shaping an individual’s circumstances,” he...
You may find that granny squares lean or curve around when you are making the square. When I make my granny squares, I just keep going in the same direction without turning. You can turn if you want to make your squares appear more consistent in look, on both sides. If you have a specialty square with certain design elements, that may prevent turning. The decision will be up to you in the end.
In this tutorial, we learn how to make a gumpaste plumeria flower for cake decorating. These come in different flowers, so you can combine a lot of different colors to make beautiful flowers. First, grab the gum paste and then roll it out. From here, use a cookie cutter in a leaf shape to cut leaves out of it. Then, take your toothpick and roll one edge to make it curved like a real flower. Then, take the petals and add color to the middle and the outsides of them. Connect them together with ...

Aharon Rabinowitz shows you how to handle the annoying (and sometimes crippling) boomerang effect, in which a layer moves randomly between two spatial keyframes that are exactly the same. This is a two part tutorial on fixing moving keyframes (the trick is to manipulate the animation curves!) in After Effects. Deal with the keyframe boomerang effect in AE - Part 1 of 2.

It's Monday, which means once again, it's time to highlight some of the recent community submissions posted to the Math Craft corkboard. I also thought that we'd try and create something known as an "Orderly Tangle" or "Polylink".
A group of R/C helicopter enthusiasts (of the superbly named entertainment production company Dude Licking a Pole Production) outfit a mini 'copter with little missiles, and send it out to hunt balloons in the cold Swedish wild. Motivation: mystifying. Outcome: wonderful. It's like James Bond meets an arcade game. And it's got everything we love: R/C , fireworks, and great video game style motion graphics.

Squash is a racquet sports game, seemingly similar to tennis, but played on a small indoor court with hollow rubber ball, much small than a tennis ball. Squash is an intense, high impact sport. This squash tutorial demonstrates Squash backhand drive from the front court.
In Monday's post, we created a sliceform model of a hyperbolic paraboloid. In today's post, we will create a similar model using skewers. The hyperbolic paraboloid is a ruled surface, which means that you can create it using only straight lines even though it is curved. In fact, the hyperbolic paraboloid is doubly ruled and is one of only three curved surfaces than can be created using two distinct lines passing through each point. The others are the hyperboloid and the flat plane.
