Augmented Reality, or just AR, is a combination of graphics overlaid onto the real world. Think of it as a cross between Virtual Reality (VR) and Real Reality (RR). Some good examples are Esquire's AR issue, eLearning video & GE's AR.
This is some current research BMW is doing in the Augmented Reality field. Imagine that, without much training, you could accomplish almost any task easily with this type of Augmented Reality.

The yet-to-be released Augmented Reality Cinema app is sure to make avid movie fans across the world drool. The concept is genius and appears to be quite seamless as well: Simply install the app on your iPhone, take a stroll through your city (supported cities have not yet been released, but the video below shows London), and aim your phone at various locations to view movie scenes that have been previously shot there.

Searching for some new new in Augmented Reality Apps I came across Augmented GeoTravel. I would have loved to have this app when I went to Europe. Being able to travel and hold up the camera & get more information on cool places I was seeing would have been awesome. It is like an ultimate travel guide and so much more. This is one of my favorite (vaporware) videos on Augmented Reality! It shows the possibilities as well as the draw backs that it could have. Look for the 'Sims' like graphs showing that he has to 'Liquid Waste' to attend to, classic.

Here is an interesting use of AR for a librarian. Anybody read Rainbows End by Vernor Vinge? The book does a great job exploring Augmented Reality in a future thriller & it actually has a moving library! Highly Recommended!
