News: Fruit Tart

Made my first fruit tart over the past couple days. The crust was pate sucree (basic sweet crust). The filling was a custard that I tried to thicken with flour and corn starch. The top was just fresh fruit with an apricot glaze (just warmed up apricot preserves with a little water so I could paint it on).

Contest: Spud Gun

Well here it is, this is an older pic but it still works, the only change from this pic and the current cannon is that I have put some duct tape around the PVC bonds and am planing on spray painting it. The compression chamber is over a foot and a half long at 2" diameter PVC to push the spud or what ever you can out the cannon. The barrel is a little more than a foot long. This was originaly a prototype with all 1" PVC pipe but I cut it all off and attached a few PVC sizers and made the barr...

Horror Photography Challenge: Ghost Caught on Camera, Prospect Place 10/28/11

You be the judge, win or not, let me know. This is the actual photo no editing (except the small caption to show you were to look) This is the 3rd Floor (typo on photo) "Ballroom" of Prospect Place in Dresden Ohio. Out of screen to the right is a cross that was painted to cover up a pentagram. Everyone in the room was standing behind me so there is no possible way to reflect this. No ledge outside of window so that is not possible. To me it looks like a figure with a white collar standing nex...

News: Vibrant Color Photography Challenge: Yellow

Oooh. Since I already eliminated myself, I can just fill up the corkboard. Ok. I really won't do that. But I had to share this one. I think this is my favorite abstract light painting. This was taken in Las Vegas. I think this was using lights from one of the hotels in the Mandalay bay complex. 15 second exposure I think.

A Kit-of-No-Parts: "Crafting" Electronics at MIT

I recently came across this amazing MIT media lab site, Kit-of-No-Parts. Though not directly related to the content Cory has been posting, it is an interesting "craft" approach to technology/science. The site was created as documentation of a student's thesis work in the High-Low Tech research group at the MIT Media Lab:

News: Dear Johnny, Looney Toons style stunt!

I know the contest is over, but I have an idea anyway! Take one of the crew, oh say, Ehren for example, and give him a parachute and place him about 40-50 ft in the air. Tell him that his mission is to jump, delpoy his chute and navigate over a pond to the other side. Except fill his chute with silverware wrapped in a blanket like in Looney Toons!! I couldn't draw a picture because I only have paint and it sucks. I'm sure you could tweek it and make it better, but I know if you guys did it yo...

How To: Yumi's Guide to Easter Egg Blowing

Get crafty this Easter weekend with egg blowing, a technique where you poke holes on the ends of raw eggs and blow out all the yolk so that you can use the empty, still-intact eggshells for painting and decorating. Fun for the whole family and all that huffing and puffing just may distract you long enough from over-binging on the giant chocolate bunny and that package of sugary Peeps. Happy Easter!

News: DIY Instant Indoor Skydiving

If you're like me, just the idea of skydiving triggers nearly-pee-in-the-pants petrification. But with a little imagination, plus Google Image Search and a projector, and all of us ninnies out there can pretend to do the real thing:

News: Screw Car

alright this might be dangerous but fun. it would involve going some place where people get really offended. everyone has a car and some else gets to paint it how every they want. the goal is to get people from the street to attack the car. it would be like going to the south and writing NASCAR is for F**S on the other guys car. but in order to win this game who every can pull over and get the most amount of people to give you directions wins.

News: Balloon Pop

My best prank would be to tie a bunch of helium balloons to a chair and tie a really long rope to the chair (probably 20 feet high). Then tell someone the skit will be for them to get in the chair and the balloons will take them up and they won't know how to get down. Once they are up in the air and have no way to get down then you can throw things at them... like poop. And to top it off you could shoot paint ball guns at the balloons to pop them and let the person down.
