In honor of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, ESPN commissioned the Wieden+Kennedy ad agency (the same group that did the amazing aquarium Nikes) and the AM I Collective (a group of artists based in Cape Town, South Africa) to create 32 murals, depicting each and every team. ESPN + ABC to Broadcast all 64 Games! This is AWESOME news. In the past we've struggled to get obscure matches broadcast on regular channels. For the first World Cup ever, the US will get every game on either ESPN, ESPN2 or ABC. The 2010 World Cup South Africa kicks off June 11 and the final match is July 11.
This article aggregates a lot of things that have been said about the World Cup experience this year (South Africa's infrastructure, low scoring games, uninteresting first round match-ups, etc). I've noticed in a few broadcasts that upper seating areas are not filled to capacity and maybe the vuvuzelas make up for this.
