Lori Nix's teeny, tiny, incredibly laborious, detail-oriented dioramas are, in a word, insane. We've seen an amazing diorama or two... but these are eerily obsessive. And creepy- all the spaces are depressed, abandoned, and in terrible disrepair.
Artist Michael Jones McKean has harnessed nature with his DIY rainbow machine, a mechanism that uses reclaimed rainwater and solar power to shoot man-made rainbows across the sky at whim. High powered jets and fountain nozzles shoot a heavy wall of rainwater into the air, creating a faux rainstorm. Sunshine does the rest.
"It seems that artist Iain Heath is quite enamored with her as well, as he’s decided to turn her Tron Legacy character Quorra into an awesome LEGO model. At only 12 inches tall and made of blocky LEGO bits, the model doesn’t exactly capture Olivia Wilde’s character in all her glory, but it’s remarkable nonetheless. Looking almost like pixel art due to its small scale, it still packs a ton of detail, from the black bob haircut to the design of the light cycle suit covering her body. Of course,...
New York based studio softlab's latest installation "(n)arcissus" is an eye-bending site specific installation currently on display at the Frankfurter Kunstverein art center in Frankfurt, Germany. Perry Watkins' clownish mini car, "The Wind Up", is officially the world's smallest street legal vehicle, standing at 41 inches high, 51 inches long and 26 inches wide. The wind up mechanism is purely cosmetic; the car operates as a regular-sized car does, with a tiny engine that can go up to 60kph (37mph).
World's biggest skateboard. World's dumbest skateboard. Whichever you find most fitting. You pick. Crowned by the Guinness Book Of World Records as the world's biggest, Joe Ciaglia and California Skateparks' creation stands at 3 feet 7 1/2 inches tall, 8 feet 8 inches wide and 36 feet 7 inches long.
Janelle Monáe is simply in a class of her own. Genre-bending beats, distinctive fashion sense (à la the fabulous Grace Jones), and sweet dance moves to boot. Whether or not Monáe falls within your musical realm, you've gotta admit: the tiny five-foot-tall singer is chock full of infectious energy and exceptional talent.
A group of Danes, known as the Copenhagen Suborbitals, have constructed the world's largest amateur rocket. This beast stands at 9 meters tall, and unlike the typical wood-based models, the Heat 1X is a real metal rocket.
With many internet/Lego nerds anxiously awaiting the completion of the world's first full size Lego House, Barnaby Gunning Architects and British TV personality, James May, finally unveiled the finished product this past Friday. The house (was) 100% Lego, "including a working toilet, hot shower and a very uncomfortable bed".
Tony Robbins is a megastar. He's on Oprah's level. And he is big. In fact, he has acromegaly: big hands and big head. 6 foot 7 inches tall.

Forget the Catcher in the Rye, try out this Basil in the Rye, which is a modern take on the classic cocktail Sazarac. If you're willing to try out new mixed drinks, then this is definitely one you need to down. Both delicious and satisfying, with an aromatic feel. And this is a stirred cocktail, not shaken, because it will ruin the flavor otherwise.

If you are bored of the way the interior of your home looks but don't want to spend a lot of time and money buying new furniture or investing in expensive DIY projects, give your inner space a quick lift with a few simple tools and supplies. Like, chalk paint on a wall which you can then decorate, erase and redecorate with chalk. Or a splash of color by hanging fabric on the wall or adding a colorful floor rug in the living room. Setting up shadows takes just as much time and attention as setting up lights. You can think of all of your illumination as one half of your lighting design, and shadows as the other, equally important half. Shadows can add richness to the tones and shading of your image, tie elements together, and improve your composition. Besides their artistic importance, rendering shadows is a key technical area to master. This chapter will explore both the visual and the technical sides of shadows and oc...
Hi, all! After building my 20:1 TARDIS, I wanted to build another spaceship, but this time, I wanted to build a real one. I wanted it to be a well-known rocket, but more importantly, I wanted it to be a huge rocket.
So, I managed to take some pics last night of the supermoon. I was dropping someone off at LAX right around perigee, so all of the images I took off the side of the road were horrible, since there were tall buildings everywhere and nothing but street and parking lot lights blocking my shots.
This week, I will be covering one of my favorite styles of roofing in Minecraft—the arched roof. This is basically just a roof that starts out steep and slowly slopes down until it meets in the center. I think this type of roof looks great in Elvish-styled buildings and can make any build look very elegant and tall.
Okay folks, I've finally finished my underground ancient city. Actually it's more like, I need to move on to other things and really should stop obsessing over this thing already. You can find it at the warp location "woodcity" - which is funny because there is not a stick of wood in it! That's the idea: the city is so very, very old that nothing but stone (and some conveniently located, er, naturally burning torches and lava and ice deposits) remains to be seen today. All is enveloped in the...
Flying orbs. At first, you might think of the Tall Man and his army of flying sentinel spheres, equipped with zombie brains and a mini-arsenal of saw blades, drill bits and shooting lasers. But these flying orbs weren't conceived from the evil mind of a superhuman mortician—they were designed by Fumiyuki Sato, a researcher at the Japanese Defense Ministry's Technical Research and Development Institute—for something other than deadly deeds.
Electronic waste (or e-waste) is becoming a bigger and bigger problem thanks to the rapid growth of technology. In 2009, the United States produced 3.19 million tons of e-waste in the form of cell phones and computers. It's estimated that 2.59 million tons went into landfills and incinerators with only 600,000 tons actually being recycled or exported. Recycling programs just aren't cutting it, so what's the next best thing? Art.
A group of nano-scientists from the University of Glasgow have created the world's smallest Christmas card, measuring in at 200 micro-meters wide by 290 micro-meters tall. (BTW, a micro-metre is a millionth of a meter, and the width of a human hair is about 100 micro-meters.)
Just the other day, we featured Perry Watkins' "Wind Up" mini car, plus his extreme lowrider, the "Flatmobile". Both impressive.
David Adams' Pac Man themed pumpkins are so cute, you're definitely going to want to preserve them as long as you can!
No, seriously. Just look at her. The Australian born pro surfer would put most dudes to shame (and conjure up some serious inadequacy issues).
Ginger ale is an American classic, particularly beloved by native Michiganders, home of the popular Vernors Ginger Ale.
My friend from Brooklyn and I went to this free show on Monday. The vocals were crisp and less distorted than on the album. Overall great energy and the crowd was totally feeling it. The crowd was made of the typical mix of big messy hair, plaid, and skinny jean wearing indie kids, along with a few random old guys. My friend said NYC shows are a lot more homogenous and was surprised by how diverse shows in LA are. I was surprised by how many tall guys (lots of guys well over 6'2) were in the ...
