Homemade circuits are amazing. You can build any kind of circuit on a simple perfboard, as we have seen in previous projects. However, some projects require very tiny circuit boards. We could special order some boards from a printed circuit board (PCB) factory, but that will most likely involve a high price per board and a few thousand miles of delivery service to pay for.

Who could resist a retro SCRABBLE board game for two bucks? Suereal definitely couldn't, especially with the challenge of totally revamping a board game into something genuine and creative. Craftster's Craft Challenge #51 last June was meant to bring life back to an old board game with the following expectations:
You store everything on your computer's hard drive… precious family photos, your favorite music and video files, valuable financial information, and let's not forget about all that porn (just kidding). You can't back up your data when it crashes, so don’t wait another day to protect your hard-earned hard drive data.
This video shows how easy and fast you can make a tattoo stencil without a thermal copier machine. You will need tracing paper, a sketchbook and stencil paper. Trace over any design that you want. Remove the brown layer from the stencil paper. Tape the traced design to the stencil paper to keep it from moving and trace the design onto the stencil paper pressing firm with a bold point pen trying not to rip the paper. Lift the white paper to see your design.
This prank uses Steve-O and Pontius to attach a rope and duct taped to their taint while the rope gets pulled by a golf cart or truck driven by Johnny Knoxville.
Do you have a friend who's a vegetarian? Well, this prank is perfect for them. It's pretty simple, where the objective is to tamper with their favorite bottle of salad dressing, and no... it's not the loosened cap prank, but it does have a similar result. You Will Need:
Mad Science is looking for more hackers, makers, and DIYers to participate in our community madness. If you've recently designed or made a project, we want to see it! Share with the other Mad Scientists out there by posting up a how-to of your pet project on our community corkboard, or even just a few cool, inspiring photos of the build.
In this article, I'll be showing you how to make a simple yet effective static electricity generator. Basically, this device allows you to carry a constant static charge on your body and discharge it on anything grounded or of opposite polarity. The electricity generated is around 8-10 kV, at a very low current. The shock is enough to startle your friends, just like a static shock from a trampoline or carpeted room. You'll need a little experience in soldering and circuit design to build the ...
I've come across a few very stubborn Xbox consoles in my day. A previous Null Byte demonstrated how to fix the Xbox with just eight pennies and some electrical tape. But if you've got one of those hell-born boxes that just refuses to be fixed in any way, shape, or form, there is always one last ditch approach. I'm talking about the infamous "towel trick". It works over 90% of the time, from my personal experience. Though, please note: This is only a temporary fix.
What happens when a struggling writer cannot finish the screenplay to her second film? She writes a book.
This article will show you how to make a shutter release cable for a Canon camera. It took me about half an hour once all of my materials were gathered. I came in at a total of about eight dollars. It has three switches and buttons. The black button on mine triggers the auto focus. The red button triggers the shutter. Finally, the switch triggers the bulb mode, or long exposure. This can be used to take astronomical photos that show the movement of the stars in the picture. The release cable ...
Torus knots are beautiful knots formed by wrapping a line around a torus and tying the ends together to form a loop. The resulting knot has a star-like appearance when viewed from above. The 36 examples with the least number of crossings can be seen at the Knot Atlas's page on torus knots.
Microsoft has had a pretty bad wrap with their Xbox 360 gaming console. Right from the start, the console has suffered a multitude of different hardware failures and design flaws. These problems cause the parts to get too hot and become faulty. I'm sure everyone who's had an Xbox 360 has gotten at least one Red Ring of Death or E74 error.
The artwork for Minnesota's Land O' Lakes butter packaging is classic, dating back to 1928 when it was first created by Brown & Bigelow illustrator Arthur C. Hanson. The logo was updated ("modernized") once in 1939, again in the '50s, and has undergone minor modifications here and there since. The legendary packaging is good for two rather nerdy tricks: A) a very trippy optical illusion and B) a very infantile boob illusion.
I remember a time when I had to rent a VHS from the local video rental store. It wasn't all that bad, with the only real annoyances being the trip to and fro, having to rewind the movie and the possible malfunction of my VHS player, which liked to eat tape from time to time.
Warning Make sure no one actually calls the cop man because if I ever saw some shit like this going down, shit that would be the first thing I did!!!
Math Craft admin Cory Poole posted instructions on How to Make a Cube, Octahedron & Icosahedron from Sonobe Units, plus some great complex models in his article, How to Make a Truncated Icosahedron, Pentakis Dodecahedron & More. These models use the standard sonobe unit and a coloured variant.
This method is easy, intuitive and requires very little math. You will need:
Fractals and stars are two of the most beautiful and complicated-looking classes of geometric objects out there. We're going to explore these objects and how to carve them on a pumpkin. Unlike the last one on carving polyhedral pumpkins, where we used the entire pumpkin to carve a 3 dimensional shape, the pumkin carving in this post will involve two-dimensional images on a small part of the pumpkin's surface.
Another media player bites the dust. First, we saw the extinction of the phonograph and gramophone. Then came the fall of eight-track tapes. Even modern record players became more and more obsolete, with DJs switching over to the world of digital music. And today— the end of cassette players! What's next? Compact discs?
Hardcore duct tape and exercise ball to the front of a motorcycle or bike. Set a person up on top of a huge cliff over water or on top of a gnarly hill. Tape some more exercise balls to the person on the cliff, forming a sort of ball suit around him. then have the motorcycle or bike hit him at high speed, launching the ball suit guy and probably sending the bike driver over the cliff too.

You have a giant hill thats covered in rocks and a standard rolling office chair and you duct tape a jackass to the chair give them a helmet and push them down the hill. at the bottom of the hill is a ramp that leads into a foam pit.
jackass crew members each take ex lax and wrestle for a key taped to the ceiling. first to grab the key wins. the key unlocks the bathroom so long story short, winner gets to poop first.
This will not be cheap. The mark attends a show by Criss Angel, or David Blaine, Derren Brown, the Amazing Kreskin, whoever. He's brought onstage to be hypnotized. Seconds later, the audience and all the mark's buddies are laughing their heads off and applauding wildly, the house is coming down.
Remove the real TV and replace it with one that looks exactly like the real one. The buttons have to be broken. Turn on something really embarrassing like porn or something (you can also video tape them doing something really embarrassing. Just say it is for the show) and turn it up really loud. Turn the TV off. Get glue and glue the plug to the outlet. Be watching them from another room or outside. Have someone’s parents or boss come over for dinner. And when they get into the living room tu...

Today's fancy cars come with all sorts of options, from power mirrors to working seat belts. Some of us condemned to live in the reality of capitalist recession have no car, or perhaps a very modest one. But your modest car can still have some cutting edge technology wedged into the trunk and dashboard if you know what you want and where to look for parts. Today, we make a parking sensor using a sonic range finder, just like in the vehicles our owners drive!
As discussed earlier, there are many ways to view the upcoming solar eclipse, whether it be with actual eclipse glasses, welder's lenses, eclipse-approved filters, or a solar telescope. If you can't get your hands on any of those, the safest way to view the solar eclipse this Sunday, whether it be annular or partial, is with a projection method.
House plants are a refreshing reminder of the rich biosphere teaming with life just outside of our hermetically sealed human dens. They calm us and clean our air. But what would you do if you came across a glowing green flower on your dinner table? I would be startled, but not shaken.
You're never too young to start building your vast swarm of robotic minions. Taking over the world requires a whole lot of robots. The sheer volume of robots needed means your first wave will have to be made of cheap materials. After they take over key resources, you can upgrade to Kevlar and titanium. But to start, let's make popsicle stick insect robots!
