Electrical engineer Greg Leyh and company are currently creating a pair of 118-foot Tesla coils! The largest coil built to date is an 18-story tower constructed back in 1903 by Tesla himself, but Leyh has decided to not only recreate the huge coil, but double it in size. The project goes by the name of "Lightning on Demand" and is currently being constructed on an 81-acre plot in the Nevada desert. Once it's finished, the pair of coils will output 10 million volt acres 100 yards long—the size...
Any daredevils out there? This one is for you. The 'Almost Flying' achievement in Assassin's Creed: Revelations looks absolutely awesome to try. You'll have to parachute from the top of the Galata Tower (which I think is the highest point in the game), and fly all the way to the golden horn.
Today, I'm dedicating to the Assassin's Creed fans out there. Yesterday saw the release of the latest in the series, Assassin's Creed: Revelations. In honor of that release, we here at Achievement Arcade would like to give the fans every advantage you can get.
Dungeon Defenders is the most exciting craft game on the Fall 2011 release schedule. I got a chance to play it at PAX in August and interviewed developers Trendy Entertainment last month. After more than a year of publishing difficulty and delay, the game finally came out on PSN, XBLA and Steam. I put about 20 hours into the XBLA version over the past weekend, beating all the campaign maps and racking up a huge pile of in-game money. It is not a perfect game. But it is a huge, challenging, an...
It's been a legendary year for snow art. First there was the Eiffel Tower penis. Then the crash-landed AT-AT. Then the beautiful snowdecahedron and the skull-shaped igloo fortress. Found on Unreality Mag, the latest newsworthy snow sculpture is every Star Wars-loving little kid's dream: an AT-AT "pony ride". Okay, so it's freezing cold. And it's technically immobile. Who cares. It's awesome.
Not only will this wood-block pistol make you the terror of your next family activity night, it'll actually improve your Jenga game! Through science! For, you see, the faster you can knock a block out of a Jenga tower, the shorter the amount of time over which it can exert a frictional force on its neighbors. Which means the whole kit-and-caboodle is much less likely to come tumbling down. Want one? You'll have to build it yourself. Which is fitting because the word "jenga" actually means som...
The Summer themed items are here! Tuesday 8-24
Slacklining is an *extreme-nut* sport of balance. It is a version of "tightrope walking" across great heights (note: distinct difference from tightrope: the rope is not as taut, but more elastic, trampoline-like).
Time to prepare for that upcoming insufferable summer heat. For real. This tutorial actually works.

Bored and want to make a cool decoration? Using a sheet of paper and an exacto knife you can make a paper pyramid tower. Make a paper pyramid tower.
Welcome to Minecraft World! Check out our advanced tutorials and come play on our free server. Minecraft is all about big ideas, but we all too often forget the details. Small changes in block type, positioning, or layout can transform builds from mundane to beautiful.
See how to make a favorite recipe of most everyone… the Caprese salad. If you like mozzarella cheese and tomatoes, this is the salad for you. Heck, it looks more like a sandwich, but it screams salad. See how to make the Caprese salad.
This Revit Architecture 2009 video tutorial covers how to import geometry from Rhino via Autocad. Really this technique will work for any program that can output a .sat. Even if the program cannot, Rhino imports many formats (such as .step or .iges) which you can then export as a .sat for Autocad. The basic logic in this tutorial is to create a tower which has geometry too complex to build in Revit. We then pass it through Autocad to export a closed solid .dwg. As of now Rhino only exports .d...

Different genres of social media have changed the world, but they are not omnipotent. In most cases this is a good thing, but not in the case of Operation Rainfall. It has been a purely well meaning social media movement that should have led to a great boon for the North American gamer public, but instead has served as a reminder of how stone aged Nintendo of America's (NOA) corporate thinking remains.
Three years ago, Double Fine productions held an in-house event called the Amnesia Fortnight. The company was split into four teams, each of which set out to spend two weeks developing an idea for a small game and present it to the other groups at the end of the duration. All of the ideas turned out to be winners, and founder/owner Tim Schafer secured publishing deals for all four games to be released on a combination of XBLA and PSN. In honor of the excellent Trenched becoming the third game...
Steam has been a game-changer in the PC indie game market over the last eight years, making smaller games available to millions of users at lower prices than ever before. And few times in those eight years have there been as much indie awesomeness on sale for as little money as this weekend.
You can blame your naggy mom, a crappy soap bar, and school or work stress for your acne. But ultimately, you should blame yourself. While it's true that your skin type (oily vs. dry vs. sensitive) and how your skin reacts to stress play a big part in blemishes, there is a nurture component to this argument.

In this article, I'll show you how to prank your friends on April Fool's Day with the very popular Google Voice, a computer to land/mobile calling feature. Basically, Google allows you to play whatever you like through the microphone port on your computer, and play it right through to your victim's phone. Whether it's Rick Astley ("Never Gonna Give You Up") or a text-to-speech application, general hilarity always follows.
For the limited-free-building contest I gave myself an even more extreme challenge: what could I do with only ONE block type? I chose nether brick stairs, in the gold challenge pack, because stairs are great.
The first Phone Snap challenge has come to an end and we have a winner! Congratulations to Rob Sawyer, for his funny and creative spin on the infamous Play-Doh character, "Mr. Bill gone MAD!!!".
Dungeon Defenders is finally out on the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. We've previously featured the tower defense RPG, and if you haven't had a chance to check out the PAX interview with Trendy Entertainment, now would be a good time.
Hungarian developer Nemesys Games is best known for making the lighthearted Fortix series, a pair of casual tower defense variants available on Steam. For their latest project, they've decided to expand their horizons, going beyond downloadable sawbuck games. It's called Rocket Bullet Storm, a chaotic old-school shmup similar to the surprising number of others to come out in the last year. The difference is that this one is huge—30 feet tall—and consumes 250 square meters of floorspace, which...
First, I have to apologize—this is really old news. But when it comes to Nele Azevedo's Minimum Monument project, it's well worth digging into the archives. It's one of the most amazing street art installations I've ever seen.
CHICAGO (AP) — To some, Cabrini-Green's infamous high-rises were a symbol of urban blight — towering testaments to the failure of Chicago public housing to give safe shelter to the poorest of the poor.
In 1782, an English plumber named William Watts came up with a clever method for making shotgun ammo. Watts constructed a six story "shot tower", consisting of a series of perfectly lined up holes, drilled into all six floors of the structure. Watts then poured molten lead through a sieve from the top story, through the holes of each floor, finally landing on the bottom floor in a pool of water. The cushioned impact resulted in a perfectly formed bullet.
George Yoshitake is one of the remaining living cameramen to have photographed the nuclear bomb. His documentation of the military detonation of hundreds of atom bombs from 1956 to 1962 reveals the truly chilling effect of the weapon. Below, images and explanatory captions via the New York Times. Don't miss the melting school bus. Creepy.

A tomato and basil salad sounds like a simple delight, right? It is, and the only thing that can make it even better is a mousse with a delicious blend of mascarpone and bleu cheese. Eric Brennan, Executive Chef at Post 390, created a tower of garden-fresh tomatoes with layers of basil and a decadent and creamy mascarpone-bleu cheese mousse. No slaving over a hot stove here and a real crowd pleaser.
As you've probably heard by now, Snapchat's new redesign isn't going over too hot with its users. Its stock plummeted last week when Kylie Jenner said she'd be moving on to more Instagram-y pastures. With all these factors, you'd probably assume that there is some empirical evidence that Snapchat is in the tube. Well, you'd be wrong.
Whoa, presenting the world's hugest, tallest, largest Treehouse built by Horace Burgess of Crossville, Tennessee.

In this article, I'll show you how to create a simple yet accurate demonstration of the "rising ionized gas" principle. In other words, a transformer, two metal prongs and lots of evil laughter. Remember those large "towers" in the background of Frankenstein movies with a "lightning bolt" rising upwards every few seconds? That's called a Jacob's Ladder; one of the coolest awe-inspiring demonstrations of high voltage. Here's a video of the final product: Materials and Tools
